Billy’s race report:
At the weekend I used my whyte 19, sram xx with a gearing of 39 chainring and 32 cassette, which was super fast and comfortable on the dry and dusty circuit.
Gridded number 1 I had a good start and from lap 1, 3 of us were away…
On lap 2, the 3rd place rider tried to overtake me but ploughed into me sending me into a tree cutting myself from ankle to the top of my back ! The impact also seemed to shred my tyre………
I caught the leaders back up with this tyre and struggled to keep up as the tyre was now flat, none the less I got to the pits with this wheel and stopped and changed, meanwhile the leaders had attacked and got a gap, I slipped into 6th and played catchup for the rest of the race to finish a sore sore 4th place….

Whyte Pro Elite Rider, Billy Whenman Finishes 3rd In the Bike Radar Live Dirt Crit.
by Keith on Jul.12, 2010, under Billy's Blog, Whyte News, Whyte Racing
Congratulations to Billy for his podium finish in the Bike Radar Live Dirt Crit. After 30 minutes and 12 laps of intense short course racing, Billy finished 3rd in an amazingly fast race format. Competing against mountain bike legends such as Oli Beckingsale, Nick Craig and Brian Lopes on a dusty and super fast track, which included north shore, technical sections and flat loose corners. Billy was in a battle for a podium spot for most of the 12 laps and triumphed after showing real determination and technical skills in blistering sunshine.
Billy had a sling slot start through the opening loop, overtaking a number of riders to fall in 3rd on Jody Crawforth and Oli Beckingsale’s wheel; after starting on row three of the grid behind MTB legend Brian Lopes. After 12 laps only Jody Crawforth and Nick Craig were left in front of Billy after a heroic chase.
Billy’s set up for the day was as follows:
Whyte 19 Carbon
“I used Continental Mountain King tyres, for the extra grip and puncture protection as it was quite flinty…. the extra side wall grip was spot on as the course was very loose, but they are fast rolling too….”
“I used a stiff set of wheels as power was a must have, and used gear ratio
39 Chainring
11-32 cassette.. and that worked nicely……”
- Billy.
Good luck for the National Championships next weekend.

Awesome work Billy, from all at Whyte.
Final stage.. PARIS
Time Trial..
Today the race is me against the clock..
Everyone is set off at minute intervals and the fastest time wins..
I set off after 4 caffeine torq gels before the race.. I flew down the 1st set of steps..and was sprinting down the roads..in and out of people and cars..
I was sprinting up the steps on foot. And decided it was do or die on the down hill steps… I went down 8 flights of steps withought using the brakes..
Around the green and dismount to run steps, I ran not to fast to the top to save some gas for the next set… Mounted the bike and flew down the next steps..
Dismount and burried myself up the long steps…legs screaming at the top..
Jumped on the bike and no brakes down the steps !!
Sprinting up the climb and managed to ride the last set of steps
Sprinting around the roads to finish..with the best time..
Then the wait began… I stood and waited..
And waited
And waited .
Until every 1 had competed.. And I had won !!!
By 2 seconds !!
My biggest win of my career !!
1st place in the final stage of the mtb tour de france !! A big UCI cat 1 race !!
Over and out…
Billy
